The ten pyramid-shaped pods sit mid-air between Wadi Shees mountains.

The UAE loves a megaproject, and its latest has taken camping to a new level – literally. The Floating Retreat in Sharjah is a new camping experience, which takes place in tents suspended in mid-air between the Wadi Shees mountains.

Created by Ardh Architects, the project aims to showcase the emirate’s natural landscape and raise environmental awareness. Guests will be able to wake up to jaw-dropping views, as they come face-to-face with nature. The architects know how to make an entrance, as visitors enter the Floating Retreat in Sharjah on the ground floor, which then moves like an elevator up to the platform.

The Floating Retreat in Sharjah includes ten pyramid-shaped pods, which stretch between two mountains. The structure is supported by a long walkway, which is attached to suspension cords. Plus, they are designed to be lightweight, fireproof and waterproof, and can hold up to two people.

The architects have also thought of every possible scenario, so that guests can truly have an elevated camping experience. The tents can be lowered to 330 feet when the weather changes, and they have blurred screens that provide privacy and an uninterrupted view.

While Floating Retreat in Sharjah are tents, think of it more as glamping than camping. The amenities match a luxury hotel and include a private bathroom, five-star spa and restaurant. Guests can update their gram as they go, as WiFi is available on headsets and tablets. Plus, there’ll be plenty of ways to enjoy the mountainous area, such as hiking, cycling and guided tours.

When Floating Retreat in Sharjah is completed, guests will be able to check in for 24 hours at a time from October to April, then for day use from May to September. Sounds like cloud nine to us.
