Sponsored: A chic Italian eatery bursting with character at one of Dubai's most exclusive addresses.
When we think of the worlds most loved cuisine, we often think of Italian food, and it's no secret that Dubai is filled with tasty Italian eateries. Team FACT were therefore eager to sample Brunello Restaurant, a chic Italian spot at Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah that has absolutely everything going for it.
Our experience started from the moment we pulled up at the luxurious hotel on the palm-shaped island that is Palm Jumeirah. As our feet touched the red carpet, which sprawled outwards into the lobby, we felt an immediate sense of awe. Then, as the large regal doors were pulled back ceremoniously, we knew we were in for a real treat. In awe of the gold detailing across the entranceway, we soon found our way to Brunello Restaurant, where we were greeted by the friendly smile of Suman, our waiter for the night. Suman was charismatic and undeniably charming as he showed us to our seats on the terrace, where the weather was pleasant and the views were stunning.
Brunello's dishes are classically Italian but come injected with a modern twist and creative presentation from Chef Ivan. To start, we sample some antipasti, with our favourite being the burrata autunnale (heirloom tomato, fresh burrata, wild rocket, crispy quinoa, tomato & peach cream). The creamy Italian cheese did not disappoint and was quite possibly the best burrata we've had in the city. From the antipasti selection, we also tried the tagliere di affettati (a selection of premium quality halal Italian cold cuts), followed by spaghetti pomodoro (spaghetti, fresh tomato and herb sauce), and penne al ragu (slow-cooked beef ragu, rosemary and tomato). The pasta is served the traditional way and arrives colourfully plated with fresh ingredients. We can literally taste every herb in the penne al ragu, and with every mouthful, we say, "we're coming back again for this!"
Whilst the portions are perfectly sized, we require a short break before tucking into our secondi course. The respite from the exceptional food provides us with the opportunity to take in the views of the hotel grounds. Meanwhile, Chef Ivan navigates across the terrace, greeting his guests, checking in to see how we're doing with a genuine interest while talking passionately about the dishes.
The menu construction is ideal, with enough appealing options to choose from without being overwhelming. We take Chef Ivan's recommendations of costolette d'angello alla Milanese (lamb chop cotoletta, clarified butter and fresh salad), and tonno in porchetta (seared tuna, pistachio herb crust, fennel, green bean cream, fresh salad, green apple and crispy quinoa). Those up for trying something new should definitely sample the latter, which is an exciting contrast of textures and flavours.
We may have been full, but who dines Italian and doesn't order dessert? We wish we had saved more room, but we managed to indulge in panna cotta (vanilla panna cotta, fruit and vegetable salad, berry coulis), and tiramisu. The traditional Italian dessert of mascarpone cream, savoiardi biscuits, and coffee makes a memorable end to a beautiful meal.
We look around the restaurant and take in the laughter and smiles throughout the dining room. A place where families enjoy quality time together, couples reminisce on the romantic terrace, and friends catch up over grape and comforting Italian dishes.
With seasonal tasting menus and a new Thursday evening brunch, Brunello Restaurant offers a chic Italian dining experience on Palm Jumeirah. A place where a quality menu backs up upscale interiors and charismatic service.
