Saudi Arabia is making waves, and one destination turning heads is the Red Sea. Now, it has unveiled the designs of Shura Links — a groundbreaking golf course that will elevate the golfing experience in the Kingdom.
Developed by Red Sea Global — which also backs the famous Amaala project — Shura Links will be Saudi Arabia’s first 18-hole island golf course. With views of the Red Sea, this establishment spanning 7,500 yards, has been designed by world-renowned golf architect Brian Curley. With holes strategically placed along the coastline to those offering panoramic views of the open sea, every aspect of Shura Links is designed to excite and challenge players of all levels. It’s touted to attract golfing champions to compete as well.
But Shura Links is not just about luxury and leisure, it’s also a sustainability champion. RSG has partnered with the OnCourse® platform to implement cutting-edge techniques aimed at reducing water consumption. Soil sensors and innovative turf management systems will also be used to ensure optimal irrigation and turfgrass quality — while minimising water wastage.
The golf course at Shura Links will also incorporate natural elements such as seaweed-based foliar feeding to promote nutrient uptake and preserve ecological balance. With only 20 per cent of the 140-hectare site dedicated to maintained turf, Shura Links embraces the natural landscape, blending with the surroundings and marine life.
Apart from an expansive golf course, Shura Links will also house a Clubhouse. Taking inspiration from Saudi Arabia’s unique floral landscape, this part of the island will be designed by Foster + Partners and follow the Coral Bloom design concept. It also provides a place for golfers to interact with other players and unwind, and will potentially house dining and gym facilities. Shura Links is expected to have a grand opening in 2025.
Shura Island
Shura Island — previously known as Shurayah Island — is the main hub island in The Red Sea. It is one of 92 archipelagos and will be home to luxury hospitality experiences. The dolphin-shaped island will be home to 11 world-class hotels and resorts. The brands include Edition, Faena, Fairmont, Grand Hyatt, InterContinental, Jumeirah, Miraval, Raffles, Rosewood and SLS.
Shebara Resort will be located on the island and is in its first phase of development. So far, we know that guests can spend the night in one of the 73 pod-like rooms, which overlook the sea. Plus, experiences include a restaurant and spa.
If you love diving or snorkelling, then you’ll be thrilled to hear that Shura Island is home to the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef. Plus, attractions include a beach club and high-end shops.
