Riyadh, you’re in for a tasty treat. The Persian restaurant Berenjak is making its way from the United Kingdom to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Located in Via Riyah, this marks the brand's third opening in the Middle East.
Berenjak Riyadh takes its name from a whimsical source — the brightly coloured, toasted rice eaten as a snack at funfairs in Persia. The dining experience offers a modern reinterpretation of the classic hole-in-the-wall eateries found in Tehran, uplifting the cuisine and ambience while inviting diners to explore Iran’s rich cultural history.
In 2018, Berenjak first opened in London, where it was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand. In 2023, it expanded to the UAE and opened in Dubai and Sharjah.
Berenjak Riyadh prides itself on its traditional take on Persian cuisine. The menu spans noon o mazeh, kebabs, khoresht, makhsoos, sofreh and Shireen. The dishes include Ghormeh Sabzi with lamb, Torshi Hafebijar with cauliflower, and Zereshk Polow Ba Morgh with chicken. However, the coal-cooked kebabs are Berenjak’s true draw.
Opening on 1 November, Berenjak Riyadh will be in excellent culinary company at Via Riyadh, joining the FACT award-winning Gymkhana and the celebrity chef-fronted Spago by Wolfgang Puck.
Riyadh Season 2024 kicks off on 12 October and continues into early 2025. This year’s edition will bring the best arts, culture and entertainment to the capital with 14 entertainment zones, 11 global championships, 10 festivals, and numerous exhibitions. Highlights include a Christian Dior exhibition called Designer of Dreams at Al Murabba National Museum, a 25,000-square-metre Harry Potter Experience, and performances from Hans Zimmer and Martin Lawrence. Plus, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev will grace the courts for the 6 Kings Slam.
