Saudi Arabia is making a significant stride towards becoming a global sports hub. It already hosts Formula 1 and football, and now, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is returning to the Kingdom with yet another UFC Fight Night.
UFC Fight Night is heading back to Riyadh once again, promising a night full of action. Taking place on Saturday, 1 February at anb Arena, you can expect some of the biggest names of the MMA world to come face-to-face with each other.
The main event will see former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya go head-to-head with Nassourdine Imavov. Israel Adesanya, known as “The Last Stylebender,” hails from Nigeria but grew up in New Zealand, where he crafted his skills. His career highlights include wins over Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa. On the other hand, Nassourdine Imavov fights out of France. Known as “The Russian Sniper,” he has steadily climbed the ranks, earning notable wins against Joaquin Buckley and Edmen Shahbazyan.
The UFC Fight Night will also see a clash between Shara Magomedov and Michael “Venom” Page. Shara Magomedov is a Russian fighter who has been turning heads with his unpredictable style and a perfect professional record to match. Nicknamed “Bullet,” he mixes speed and precision. Meanwhile, Michael “Venom” Page, or MVP, hails from London, England. With a background in kickboxing, he is famous for his knockouts that leave fans in awe.
Earlier this summer, Saudi Arabia hosted its first-ever UFC event. The debut UFC Fight Night in the Kingdom took place on 22 June in Riyadh. For the first time, Saudi MMA fans got to experience the adrenaline-pumping action of a UFC Fight Night live at the Kingdom Arena. The headline event featured a clash between Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev.
Apart from the match between Whittaker and Chimaev, the event also featured several other thrilling heavyweight bouts. These included names such as Russian powerhouses Sergei Pavlovich and Alexander Volkov, along with Johnny Walker, and Volkan Oezdemir. Many more prominent names, known for their exceptional skills and fierce competition, were part of the tournament in Saudi Arabia.
The first ever UFC Fight Night in Saudi Arabia was initially supposed to take place in March 2024; however, it was pushed to June to ensure “the best calibre of talent will be available to participate.”
The UFC awards the heavyweight champion of MMA. The championship hosts more than 40 live events each year in some of the most prestigious arenas around the world, and the lineup features the world’s best MMA athletes, representing over 80 countries.
