The heritage house has been transformed into a multi-faceted destination.

The UAE is known for its rich culinary and cultural scene, but few places have successfully blended both. However, Sharjah’s latest gem, Bait Elowal brings the best of both worlds with grace, history, and authenticity.

Located in Sharjah’s Al Mareija district, Bait Elowal is a tribute to the emirate’s rich past. This stunning heritage destination dates back over a century and overlooks Sharjah Creek.

Bait Elowal is the brainchild of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi and was officially inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. It’s an Arabic name which basically translates bait to “home” and elowal to “travellers who return from their trips with stories and much more to share.” True to its name, this space embodies the spirit of those who return with stories, souvenirs, and new flavours from their journeys. It invites you on a sensory adventure, immersing you in the warmth and tradition of an authentic Emirati home.

Bait Elowal

Bait Elowal is a two-story heritage house that’s beautifully restored in a location with alleys, souks, and museums. The architecture has been carefully preserved and features thick walls, intricately carved wooden doors, and flat roofs that reflect Emirati craftsmanship. Its central courtyard features a fountain, one of this space’s many highlights. With Moroccan Zellige tiles, you’re in for an elegant journey through Emirati values and a setting that feels straight out of a royal Arabian tale.

Bait Elowal’s main restaurant, set in the picturesque courtyard, on the ground floor promises to take you on a gastronomic journey inspired by the Silk Road. The menu pays homage to the flavours of Morocco, Persia, India, and Türkiye. Every dish here tells a story of trade, travel, and cultural exchange, honouring Sharjah’s legacy.

Designed for intimate gatherings and special occasions, Bait Elowal is also home to Al Atlas, which features an exclusive dining experience with a private majlis. With chef-led live experiences and curated menus that bring the stories behind each dish to life, this spot elevates the venue’s charm.

Inspired by the Emirati tradition of storytelling over tea, Al Marmas is a Moroccan-inspired terrace overlooking the historic port of Sharjah. Here, you can savour a selection of fine teas featuring Silk Route flavours along with light bites.

Bait Elowal

Beyond its culinary offerings, Bait Elowal is a multi-faceted cultural destination. It is also home to Soghat Elowal craft boutique, which features handcrafted items showcasing Emirati and Palestinian embroidery, Moroccan homeware, and much more. There’s also Al Kutubkhana — translating to house of books — which has an extensive selection of Arabic and English literature.
